Day 1: starts at 9.00am The tour begins with hospitality and a cup of tea at Salem's home in Wadi Rum village. Then we travel by jeep to visit the Nabataean temple, Lawrence Spring, Khazali Canyon, red sand dunes, Little Arch, Um Frouth Rock Bridge, Burdah Rock Bridge, the Map petroglyph, Anfeshiyah inscriptions, Lawrence House, the red and white deserts, and the yellow sandstone. At several of these sites there is an easy climb for a good view. We will also stop for a short hike in the Burrah Canyon. In the middle of the day we stop to cook lunch over a fire in the shade of a mountain, and rest for a while. We end the day with viewing the sunset, and we set up camp in the quiet of the desert. Dinner is cooked over the fire, and you will experience the spectacular star-filled night sky of Wadi Rum - relaxing on your mattress, looking up to catch the shooting stars as you drift off to sleep. Day 2: After breakfast we drive to Jebel Al Hash. This mountain is close to the border with Saudi Arabia and offers the best views of Wadi Rum desert - of Um Adaami (highest mountain in Jordan), the Wadi Sabet valley, and on all sides the wide expanse of mountains and desert sands, in all their different colours. It is an easy hike, a mixture of scramble and walking, to the top of Jebel Al Hash, and takes about 4 hours there and back. At the top we will have a cup of tea, and enjoy the views. Once we are down again we will cook lunch over a fire in the shade, and rest for a while. In the afternoon we travel by jeep to visit a Bedouin family living a traditional desert lifestyle. Then we go to a cool spring, and see how the Bedouin built a cavern in the rocks to hold and conserve precious water. We visit the Cow Rock, and sand dunes, and then set up camp for our second night in the desert. Dinner is cooked over the fire, and you will have another evening of star-gazing and sleeping under the stars. Day 3: After breakfast we return to Wadi Rum village arriving by 8.30am. One-day Hike and overnight in the desert We set out on foot from Wadi Rum village with a Bedouin guide and visit the quiet places in the desert. Even though it's a long day, the hike is easy, a gentle walk over level terrain, passing through narow canyons, and seeing the beauty of the desert landscape at every turn. We rest for a while in the heat of the day, and at night, sleep under the stars beside a camp fire. After breakfast the next morning, we will return to Wadi Rum village by jeep. For the hike, it's advised to wear comfortable shoes and a hat, and a backpack for your water. Burdah Rock Bridge This natural rock arch (photos above) is the largest of Wadi Rum's rock bridges and furtherest from the village. It towers about 300 metres above the desert plain, and the three-and-a-half-hour there-and-back climb is better suited to moderately fit people. From across the valley we can see this rock bridge from the desert plain below, and as we near the mountain wall of Jebel Burdah it disappears from view far above us. One-day Climb of Burdah Rock Bridge (without overnight) This tour starts from the Rest House in Wadi Rum village, we travel by jeep to the foot of Burdah Rock Bridge in the White Desert, 30 kms south of the village. From there we climb up to the rock bridge (maximum of three-and-a-half hours up and down, a shorter time for fit people.) After our descent your guide will cook lunch for you, and we will rest in the shade and quiet of the desert for a while. On our way back we will visit Um Frouth Rock Bridge, a desert spring, and then we will visit a Bedouin family living in the desert. To end the day we will view the sun setting over the desert before returning to Wadi Rum village. It is situated 40 kms south of the village of Wadi Rum, on the border with Saudi Arabia. From the summit on a clear day visitors will have views across the north of Saudi Arabia, and even to the Red Sea. Although it is high and a local guide is needed, it is not a difficult hike to the top of Um Adaami. At Jebel Um Adaami your guide will lead the way to the top of the mountain, a hike of about three-and-a-half hours to get up and down, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the views from the top.
